This tool offers three modes. In the standard mode, enter the original price and discount percentage to see your savings and the final price you pay. The reverse mode lets you enter a sale price and the discount that was applied to find the original price before the discount. The stacking mode allows you to apply multiple successive discounts to see the combined effect on the final price.
When multiple discounts are applied sequentially, they do not simply add up. A 20 percent discount followed by a 10 percent discount is not the same as a 30 percent discount. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price. For example, a 100 dollar item with 20 percent off becomes 80 dollars, and then 10 percent off that gives you 72 dollars, which is a 28 percent total savings rather than 30 percent.

Retailers often advertise discounts that sound better than they are, especially with stacked promotions.
